Show Cause vs. COVID-19: The Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry

By Rain BDM | 05.15.2020

We continue to Show Cause for organizations doing good work in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. Today, we are proud to spotlight a small but mighty organization in Metro Detroit – the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry.

FISH_Food_Pantry_Oxford_OrionOur communities deal with food insecurity whether or not there is a pandemic, but the onset of the coronavirus crisis has exaggerated an already all-too-common problem. Ensuring families receive nutritious meals and removing barriers to access to food remains a top priority for the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry, an organization close to the heart of Rain BDM project manager Katie Valentine.

The Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry is located in one of Detroit’s wealthiest suburbs, so the need for emergency food services is often underestimated or overlooked. The selfless volunteers at Oxford/Orion FISH Food Pantry provide those services and identify resources and agencies that can offer additional assistance. Because of COVID-19’s virulence, the pantry cannot accept donated canned or boxed goods, which has increased the need for monetary donations to sustain its efforts to give groceries to children and families in the region, free of charge.
