Show Cause: Supporting The Salvation Army Kerrville After Devastating Texas Floods
By John Reed | 07.10.2025
The recent catastrophic flooding in Central Texas has brought unimaginable suffering to communities throughout the Hill Country, but it has also revealed the extraordinary resilience and compassion of neighbors helping neighbors in their darkest hour.
Over the July 4th weekend, flash floods swept through Kerr County and surrounding areas when the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet within 45 minutes. The devastating floods have claimed dozens of lives, with search and rescue efforts continuing for those still missing. Entire communities have been displaced, homes destroyed, and families separated as emergency responders work around the clock to reach those in need.
In times of crisis, we look for organizations that can mobilize quickly, provide immediate relief, and offer sustained support for the long road to recovery. The Salvation Army has been that beacon of hope for more than 150 years, and its local affiliate – The Salvation Army Kerrville – is no exception.
First to Respond, Last to Leave
The Salvation Army’s disaster response motto—”First to Respond, Last to Leave”—perfectly captures their approach to emergency services. When disaster strikes, their teams don’t wait for formal requests or bureaucratic approvals. They mobilize immediately, bringing mobile kitchens, emergency shelter, emotional and spiritual care, and practical assistance to those who need it most.
The Salvation Army Kerrville Corps serves not just the city of Kerrville but the broader Hill Country region, including many of the rural communities hardest hit by the recent floods. Their local teams understand the unique challenges of their geography—from accessing remote areas to coordinating with multiple county emergency management agencies—and they have the relationships and resources to respond effectively.
Showing Cause for Community Recovery
This month, Rain’s Show Cause community involvement initiative proudly supports The Salvation Army Kerrville as they continue their vital work helping Central Texas communities recover from the devastating floods. We hope you’ll show support, too.
