Show Cause: Rain Is Going to the Dogs

Pooches. Woofers. Canis familiaris. Faithful, four-legged companions. Yup, we’re talking about dogs. We love ‘em.

Did you know that for the last 19 years, all 24 hours of March 23 have been designated National Puppy Day? To honor bow-wows, young and old, Rain is going to the dogs this month to “show cause” for the animals that give us so much joy and unconditional love.

Dogs Serving a Higher Purpose

Dogs aren’t just cute, stress-relieving, non-judgmental pals. They work for a living, too. If you follow Rain and its founder John Reed, you know Leader Dogs for the Blind is one of our favorite causes. For more than 80 years, this nonprofit has trained dogs to assist visually impaired and deaf-blind individuals. These incredible dogs help their humans live more independently. Leader Dog creates a path to a new perspective on life for people facing unique daily challenges.

Shelters Rescuing Dogs That Rescue Humans

Did you also know that animal shelters typically have the highest intake of dogs during the spring and summer? It takes funds and armies of volunteers to take care of rescues before they hopefully find their fur-ever homes, and the needs never stop.

Showing Cause for the Dogs in Our Communities

This March, in honor of National Puppy Day and Fidos and Spots everywhere, Rain is supporting canine causes where our people live and work. We are a proud sponsor of this year’s Leader Dogs for the Blind “Dinner in the Dark” event, and we’ve donated to the Franklin County (Ohio) Dog Shelter, Lexington (Kentucky) Humane Society, and the Michigan Humane Society.

If you’ve had a dog in your life – and even if you haven’t – is there something you can do to support a worthy organization? Shelters always need in-kind donations. Do you have extra blankets or comforters? Most rescue centers gladly accept dog food, treats, and peanut butter. And don’t forget toys! Many organizations make it even easier for you to give by posting wish lists of wanted items on Amazon.

Of course, if you have room in your home and your heart, please consider fostering or adopting a dog. After all, happiness is as simple as a tag wag.
