When we launched our Show Cause social responsibility program last year, we could not have predicted a global pandemic or nationwide protests against racial injustice on the horizon. Nevertheless, where there are needs in our communities, Show Cause is our way of coming together to lend support. Now more than ever.
Our Stance
We reject racism, inequality, hatred, and cruelty. Period. Equality and equal treatment under the law are fundamental rights owed to every member of our society.
The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, and so many other African-Americans were senseless, horrific, and clear signs that racism and racial discrimination remain ugly truths in our country. Their deaths have given rise to a movement calling for African-Americans to enjoy the same rights and protections as every other citizen – not to be victims of violent retaliation and police brutality in the absence of national leadership. Let it be repeated that Black Lives Matter.
Rain BDM stands with all peaceful protestors everywhere. Voices must be heard, not silenced. Empowerment must be encouraged, not suppressed. The time for empathy, kindness, conversation, and meaningful and lasting change is now – it is long overdue.
Our Support
Show Cause enables members of the Rain BDM team to support organizations serving the communities where we live and work, and in whose missions we strongly believe. As COVID-19 began to spread, we donated to nearly a dozen charities providing food, shelter, safety, and other relief to those affected by the coronavirus. Although the pandemic is by no means over, we feel compelled to shift our focus to racial injustice and inequality.
Our team has selected these organizations that champion equal rights and social justice:
- ACLU of Michigan
- The Bail Project
- Detroit Justice Fund
- Equal Justice Initiative
- The Innocence Project
- The Mikva Challenge
- Urban League of Portland
We are proud to Show Cause for these organizations, which have a common commitment to better the lives of individuals – especially Black Americans – who have been mistreated, discriminated against, overlooked, or underestimated through no fault of their own.
The fight continues…
